On his return flight from Slovakia, Pope Francis commented on a hot topic in American Catholicism: should pro-abortion politicians receive the Eucharist?

The pope even said clearly that abortion is “homicide.” His comments about pro-abortion politicians were different. “If we look at the history of the Church, we will see that every time the bishops acted not as pastors in a problem, they became politicians,” Pope Francis said.

Dr. Monica Miller, director of Citizens for Pro-Life Society, wrote in a recent Crisis Magazine piece, “one must honestly conclude that Francis has at least informally directed the bishops to not deny Holy Communion to those Catholic lawmakers who not only advocate but actually facilitate the legalized murder of the unborn.” She joined Al Kresta on Kresta in the Afternoon to discuss Pope Francis’ comments and why he should change his mind and say that pro-abortion politicians should not receive the Eucharist.

Kresta in the Afternoon airs weekdays from 4-6pm eastern on Ave Maria Radio, on over 350 EWTN Radio affiliates across the country, and SiriusXM 130. Listen on demand wherever you get your podcasts or on the Ave Maria Radio App.
